Malinda Ruth DeMent, 93, of Decatur, IL passed away, Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Burial will be at Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Mrs. DeMent was born in Melmine, IL, December 7, 1916 the daughter of Ventis and Margaret (Broom) Wakeman. She worked for over 20 years at Sears. She was an avid bowler and golfer and was known for her special chocolate chip cookies. She married Harold “Red” DeMent September 6, 1941. He passed away June 26, 1994.
She is survived by: her daughter, DiAnne Howie and her husband Robert of Decatur, IL; step-daughter, Barbara Mohn and her husband Elmer of Versailles, IL; step-son, Robert DeMent and his wife Marion of Decatur, IL grandchildren; Elizabeth Brimm and her husband Ryan of Forsyth, IL and Rachel Howie; step-granddaughter, DiAnne Bickett; step-grandson, Doug DeMent of Decatur, IL; great-grandchildren, Jade, Gage and Kiarra Brimm all of Forsyth, IL, Samantha and Lindsey Bickett; and Ruth’s special friend Stan Peck. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. DeMent was preceded in death: by her parents, her husband, brother; Adsel, sister; Dorothy Barber, granddaughter; Debbie DeMent and great-granddaughters; Brandi and Katana Brimm.
